In a country where the rise in population is directly proportional to the fall of available space, it is very practical to live in smaller units such as apartments. However, the hazard of living in such small places is that your appliances and furniture tend to be smaller, too. Your refrigerator is smaller, your bed is smaller, and even your toilet bowl is smaller. So, when the time comes that you need an oven for a special dinner, all you can do is scratch your head.

But that is not the case anymore. Because appliance manufacturers noticed the need for smaller yet fully functional appliances, they have produced toaster ovens. You might think, “I won’t be able to bake in that thing.” That is where you are wrong.A lot of moms know the need of owning an oven at home. Without one, you will not be able to make decent lasagna or bake cookies for fundraising events. With a toaster oven, cooking these things is no problem at all.

Toaster ovens come in two different types, the first one is the plain oven where you are just limited to toasting breads and grilling a sausage. The second one, however, performs functions of a normal oven and allows you to bake, broil, and grill, complete with timer and temperature controls.

Toaster oven cooking is actually very easy if you already know how to use a full sized oven. The controls are pretty much the same, allowing you to fiddle with the controls for customized settings. Most toaster ovens have controls of whether you want to turn on both the top and bottom wires or just one at a time. They also come with a convection function, making sure that the temperature is distributed equally inside the oven.

The convection control normally serves as the rotisserie control as well, allowing this type of cooking for chicken. Normally, a rod and two locks are included n the box when purchasing a toaster oven and, having tried one, I could say that the locks really do a good job in keeping the chicken secured.

Toaster ovens normally use electricity to operate, although it does not consume as much as a full sized electric oven does. The size, like mentioned, is perfect for smaller families.

There are a few drawbacks in this kind of cooking, however. Since the oven is smaller, the space between the hot rods and the food is greatly reduced. Because of that, food seems to cook quicker compared to a larger oven. It is also quite hard to fit a turkey inside, again because of the size. But that one can easily be solved by replacing it with a smaller bird such as a chicken. After all, Thanksgiving does not come around every day.

Toaster ovens are perfect for families living in smaller spaces or for anyone who cannot afford a decent full size oven yet. It performs most of the functions of the real one at a smaller size and a relatively smaller price, as well.

By: Mary Franklin

A microwave oven in the kitchen is enough to make a homemaker happy with everyday food preparation. Efficiency is the advantage of microwave: faster cooking time, defrosting capability no other cooking appliance can, reheating of food in papers and plastics. Imagine life without microwave oven?

It is a kitchen’s asset but experience can say exactly what is missing with a plain microwave oven professional chefs cannot consider enough as the sole cooking device.

A combination microwave toaster oven will answer to this: both microwave and toaster in one compact unit. Slightly bigger compared to the conventional one, microwave oven toaster functions exactly like any old fashioned oven. It can bake, achieve the desired “browning” and make snack preparation easier.

The good thing about having the latest generation of microwave oven toaster is the provision of digital preset function buttons. This auto-cook configuration will help avoid mistakes in cooking time. The amount of power needed to complete the cooking is also preset.

Actually there is no any other menial task to do other than wait for the food to get cooked. Great meals will truly be one click away with this versatility. Of course, comfort in living will mean cost because microwave toaster oven is higher than ordinary microwave oven.

Initially, there is a need to get acquainted in using microwave oven toaster. It is compact, no pre-heating needed, unconventional in method of cooking and functions differently compared to any cookers accustomed to. Who could ever think foods get cooked without direct heat?

Microwave toaster oven are designed to function as is while powered by electromagnetic waves. Just like any microwave, it has potential hazard to be considered as written in every respective user manuals to follow.

Microwave toaster oven has a definite advantage not present in any other items. The toaster is the deciding point in getting this kind of piece. As a small appliance in the kitchen, it will not take so much space to get one. Actually it is considered a small microwave suited for small apartments, especially for a starting family.

It is hard to imagine how to live the present world without a microwave. Fast phased lifestyle will call for reheating of leftovers without indulging too much time in setting up the stove and transferring the food to a cookware.

Buying just a conventional microwave? Think again. Consider a microwave with toaster.

By: Low Jeremy

The busy pace of modern life can sometimes make it feel like there are not enough hours in the day. There are so many things to do during our busy days, that having the time to cook good and healthy meals that are nutritious and good for your families’ health sometimes seems like an impossible task.

We all know, for example, that using fresh vegetables and other healthy ingredients can really add to the general vitality of our family. But when it comes to finding enough time to spare to get these healthy meals cooked, it sometime seems a lot easier just to settle for a quick, convenience meal.

However, there are some small kitchen appliances that can be used to cut down the workload that cooking brings with it. Your basic essential item when it comes to saving time in the kitchen is the mixer. This is something every kitchen should have. Some mixers are almost like a second pair of hands, able to chop up ingredients, and even to help when it comes to making sauces. These things are so advanced now that they are part of the preparation of many meals.

One absolute essential is the slow cooker. Similar to the mixer, they take a lot of the work involved in cooking out of the equation. All you have to do with a slow cooker is put all of your ingredients into the appliance, usually in the morning, and then set the slow cooker to cook a meal. The slow cooker then literally slowly cooks the ingredients throughout the day. At the end of the day, you can expect a beautifully cooked and tasty meal. Exactly the kind of meal we all know we should cook, in other words.

The toaster oven or mini grill is another solution that you can implement in the busy kitchen. This one will again take care of some time consuming jobs that we could do without. Some models allow you to bake pizza, which means that they can be set to cook pizza and left to it. This means that you can leave them to do this job, and then get on with the more important stuff.

There are many small appliances that make cooking a joy rather than a chore. Technology has brought us to the stage where we can still cook amazing meals for our family, even when there are only 24 hours in the day.

By: Lee Laz

We were toasting bagels one morning when my sister was in town. As we all sat around the table to enjoy our breakfast, she mentioned to me that I should unplug my toaster oven since we weren’t using it anymore. My response was, “I turned it off, it’s OK.”

No, it isn’t OK. What I didn’t understand then that I know now is that small appliances and electronics still draw electricity when they’re plugged in – even if the power button is turned off. Common sense says if these items are drawing power when we’re not using them, why keep them plugged in?

Exactly.

The biggest energy-drainers even when they are turned off are microwave ovens, televisions, DVD players, computers, game systems, and cable and satellite TV boxes. A good solution for these items is to plug several devices into a power strip that has an on/off switch. When you flick the switch off, the power strip no longer draws electricity from the outlet.

There are many reasons to keep your appliances and electronics unplugged when you’re not using them. First and foremost, it is the responsible thing to do for the environment. Just think how good it will feel as you’re unplugging your cell phone charger that you’re doing something good for the environment today! It’s a very simple and easy thing that EVERYONE can do. Imagine if everyone in your city decided to do this one small thing how much energy we could save? How about your state? The world?

Another main reason is the reduction in your electric bill. When my sister told me that she was saving $15 – $20 each month by unplugging her microwave, cell phone charger, and her TV my first thought was “yeah right – it can’t be that much”. Others might say that’s not enough of a savings to even bother with. Oh really? Twenty dollars per month is $240 per year in savings. I can think of plenty of things I’d rather do with $240 than give it to the electric company for something I didn’t use anyway.

The truth is that if you have 10 items in your home that are plugged in and not in use, you could be wasting as much as 450,000 watts (or 4,500 kilowatts) of electricity per year! Depending on your usage and local electricity rates, that could cost you anywhere between $200 and $600 each year! Also, most utility companies charge a higher rate when you use more than a certain amount of energy, and they also charge more during summer months when electric use is higher, so that becomes an even bigger savings when you keep your electronics unplugged.

So now I understand what my sister was talking about when she told me to unplug my toaster oven. Everything stays unplugged in my house now unless it’s being used. I am happy to say that my electric bill has been reduced by a little more than $20 each month, but even prouder to say that I am doing something good for the environment today.

By: Lori Robinson

Small toaster ovens are extremely convenient to have in the kitchen. Not only do they combine the convenience of a toaster and an oven, they do it in a very small space that fits neatly on the kitchen counter. They are, of course, available in a number of different sizes, but most people feel that a small toaster oven is the perfect size. This is because it does not take up much space, costs less than larger models, and is generally just the right size for quick baking tasks.

Although some people think that they are only appropriate for small families, such as single people or couples, this is not necessarily the case. Often even larger families feel that using one is ultimately more convenient and useful than the larger models. This is because they can quickly let one-person heat up a meal, or fix an after school or late-night snack. Most people find that they end up using the large stove oven anyway when they need much more than a meal or snack for one or two people. As a result, a small toaster oven often gets more use than a larger one, even in larger families.

A small toaster oven can be a real advantage to a busy family. They are extremely affordable, easy to clean, and simple to maintain. They are a durable appliance that does not require a lot of electricity or money to operate, and are much more economical than using a large oven for small baking tasks. They are small enough to fit into even small kitchens, don’t take up much counter space, and are an efficient way to cook a quick dinner for one or two people. They can be especially handy for cooking special meals for one person in the family, especially if one person has certain dietary restrictions or needs that are not shared by the rest of the family.

Small toaster ovens can be a great choice for families with children. Many children would like to learn to cook their own simple meals and snacks, but they are intimidated by the large oven. A small toaster oven is just the right size for children to practice their cooking skills. They might even discover that they prefer their healthier homemade baked snacks as opposed to less healthy and more expensive processed junk snack foods.

Before purchasing your small toaster oven, do some research to make sure you get the best deal. There are sites online that make it easy to do product and price comparisons. Take the time to shop at some local stores, so that you can compare the sizes and features in person, regardless of where you plan to purchase your small toaster oven. This can help you find just the right model for your needs. Once you locate the model you want, you can purchase it either locally or online.

By: Shane Dolby

A small toaster oven is an extremely convenient small appliance to have in your kitchen. It can combine the functionality of both a toaster and an oven in one small appliance. Although they come in a wide variety of sizes, one of the most useful of all sizes is the smaller version. Most times, by the time you need the larger size one, you are better off using an actual oven. A small toaster oven is great for your smaller oven baking needs, perfect for making toasted items, and does not take up a lot of counter space… all at a fraction of a price of a larger and more elaborate oven.

Small toaster ovens are useful for any size of family. Single people or couples may not even need anything larger for most of their cooking tasks. However, even larger families can make good use of one. There are always going to be times when one member of the family needs to heat up a quick meal, or wants to make something different from what the rest of the family is going to be eating. They are also handy for heating up or cooking after school snacks and late night treats. For these times, a small toaster oven fits the bill perfectly.

Not only are smaller counterparts much more affordable than larger models, but they are easy to clean and maintain as well. They do not use as much electricity as a larger oven, which saves money. In addition, if you compare the cost of using a small toaster oven to using your regular oven, the savings can really add up. They fit easily into even a small kitchen, and can quickly and efficiently cook a dinner for one or two people.

By: Brandi Abbey

The world of technology is ever expanding, and thankfully these technological advances have spilled over into the culinary world in the form of appliances. The availability and variety of appliances are vast, with new inventions and improvements popping up every day! In this article, we’re going to talk about a few appliances that aren’t new inventions by any means, but have been improved nearly beyond recognition!

Slow Cooker

The slow cooker is a pretty basic appliance. It consists of an electric housing unit (usually metal) in which a large ceramic pot is inserted, complete with lid. Slow cookers are called such because they do genuinely cook slowly compared to a microwave or toaster oven. Slow cookers are ideal for recipes that allow you to simply chuck in all of the ingredients and leave it to cook. Stew, soup, chilli, nacho cheese, and pot roast are excellent examples of dishes that cook well in a slow cooker. Over the years, here hasn’t been much advancement with slow cookers, save for the fact that many brands have now gone digital – which means you can program it to shut off at a certain time. Is that handy, or what? This “set it and leave it” approach to cooking is brilliant for those who lead a busy lifestyle but want to enjoy a warm, cooked meal at the end of the day.

Bread Machine

Bread machines, as the small household appliance that we know today, can be traced back to 1986, although they didn’t really catch on until the mid-nineties. Bread machines take all the work out of bread making – and you bakers out there understand how laborious the task can be! With a bread machine, you load up the necessary ingredients, shut the lid, and press the button for the appropriate setting. The machine uses a dough hook to mix and knead the dough, then it heats up slightly to allow the dough to rise. After it has risen, the hook resumes kneading for a few minutes, and then the machine heats up and cooks the bread. Voila – homemade bread!

Toaster Oven

Heat, toast, bake, and broil – toaster ovens can do it all! While a toaster oven might be a miracle to some kitchens, it may not get nearly as much use in others. Toasted sandwiches, crispy French fries, pizza, cookies, Cornish hens – virtually any small dishes you bake in your oven can be cooked in a countertop oven.

Food Processor

Food processors have been used in a domestic fashion since the early 70’s, and it’s no wonder why they’re still widely used today. Chopping, dicing, and slicing by hand takes ages of time, but a food processor does all of that in seconds! Fruit and vegetables can easily be prepared for salads, sauces, or pureed for homemade baby food. While there are digital food processors on the market, it simply hasn’t caught on quite yet as food processing doesn’t really utilize a digital display to the full advantage.

Electric Steamer

This is likely to be one of the most health-promoting appliances you can own! When vegetables are boiled or baked, most of the nutrients flow out with the juices, leaving the veggies low in both nutrients AND flavour. However, steaming food allows it to be thoroughly cooked and still remain healthful. And steamers aren’t just for cooking vegetables, either! You can steam chicken, fish, and even rice. Most steamers come with “tiers” or trays, so you can steam all of your food at once. The digital feature really did kick off with steamers, as programmable features and an automatic shut-off function add to the convenience of this appliance.

You might own some of these appliances, and you might not own a single one. Not all kitchens have the space or the need for these terrific items, but some people truly can reap the benefits that these machines have to offer. Ask yourself this: could YOU benefit from one – or a few – of these machines?

By: Patrick Carpen
