Small refrigerators, often referred to as mini refrigerators or compact refrigerators, are great at offering conveniences for many people in many different living scenarios. For most people a mini refrigerator serves the purpose of a backup or supplemental appliance to their primary, full-sized refrigerator. But for a small college dorm room where refrigerating needs are limited a mini refrigerator is popular because it does the job on a small, compact scale.

Small beverage refrigerators are commonly used in homes that are large enough to enjoy the convenience of having a small refrigerator in or around an area or room that is frequently used for gathering of people, such as an outdoor refrigerator in the backyard or a beverage refrigerator in the bar or game room.

In college the needs are limited to snacks, leftover pizza, and drinks. A mini refrigerator serves these needs and not much more. Then you have the more common models of small and compact refrigerators for typical in house use and are common in dorms and small apartment, these units are usually built to be more budget friendly than others and are very simple in function and design. Built in refrigerators refer to any unit that is designed specifically to be integrated into the wall or counter of a kitchen. Then we have the most common small refrigerators which are popular in college dorm rooms and small studio apartments without full kitchens. These come in a wide variety of selections and are usually very plain in design. They aren’t built to last as long as some other designs but that is because of their very purpose. It serves college students and people who have not settled into a home. Small, light, and cheap makes it easy to use, transport, and afford.

When your student is ready to go to college and you are wondering what would make a nice gift that can be used often and appreciated very much, the small refrigerator is the answer. Often students study late and need a place to keep their drinks and snack foods so they do not have to go out. It saves them time and money because ordering in can be an expensive part of the cost of living on campus. When a student has to spend time out trying to feed their hunger than time is wasted for studying.

The most obvious factor people consider when looking for a small refrigerator is the size. The primary reason a person looks for a small refrigerator is because they have refrigerating needs but do not want a full sized refrigerator. However, there are usually more specific details that many are not aware of until they take the unit home and realize there is something missing or a feature that would have made the refrigerator more useful.

The first thing that really affects the effectiveness of the storage capacity of a refrigerator is are the shelves. Since space is limited improper shelf design can create a lot of wasted space or can assist in making the most of empty space. Adjustability of the shelves is an important factor to increasing the efficiency of the space used.

When talking shelves, a removable shelf not only make storage easier and more effective but also assists in the cleaning process. Glass is also easier to clean than plastic since it is see through so any spot is easily visible. Removable or sliding out shelves make it easier to reach things and clean.

There are many models to choose from when shopping for a small refrigerator. Also known as a compact refrigerator or a mini refrigerator, these pint sized appliances are range from single can holders to anything smaller than 18 cubic feet. At which point it is considered a standard sized refrigerator. The most common models that come to mind are between 2.8 to 4.4 cubic feet.

The designs that are around 2.8 cubic feet are sometimes referred to as compact cube refrigerators because of their roughly cube shaped contour. These are best for beverages since they cannot hold much else beyond a snack and some drinks. It is great for game rooms or offices where a full sized fridge will serve the primary purposes of a refrigerator. One of the best things about such small units is the small price tag which usually runs around $100.

Then there are mid-sized refrigerators that can be anything between 2.5 and 10 cubic feet of storage space. These usually have a small full-width freezer compartment which is much more useful than the half-width freezer compartments of most compact cube refrigerators. This mid-sized small refrigerator is more often used in small apartments or dorms where there is a need to store a couple days worth of groceries for one person.

On the larger end of the scale, the models tend to be large enough to have a separate freezer compartment.
