Homes and businesses can have very different requirements when it comes to choosing appliances. Clearly, if your organization is home-based, your needs are equivalent to that of a residential dwelling. Likewise, if you are running a large manufacturing company your requirements are going to be different. Even so, home and business appliances are basically the same.

As the needs of all homes are pretty much the same, they all have the same basic domestic machines. Businesses, on the other hand can be very different, and have very different requirements. There are five basic, regular residential appliances. These are the washer and dryer, stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. Other, smaller home appliances can include a microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, blender, mixer, food processor, extra ranges and more.

Businesses rarely have as many appliances as homes do, although, some companies can require the same machines only in more heavy-duty models. For example, in your house, the coffee maker is usually only turned on and run once in the morning. In a fair sized organization, the coffee maker could be used five or ten times a day, or more for a larger business! When shopping for your residence, you would probably buy a regular 12 cup coffee maker, but when shopping for a large company you would probably want to find something more durable and large in proportion to the amount of people that will be using it.

A lot of businesses, including smaller ones have a kitchen in which there is usually a microwave, small fridge and a kettle. These are the same appliances that you would typically find in a house. The larger organizations may have a more full-sized kitchen with a stove and regular fridge. Businesses like manufacturing companies and factories are the ones that have the heavy duty machines. Some of these appliances include very large freezers and refrigerators. Some factories like to provide frozen treats for their employees in the summer because of the lack of air conditioning, and as such, they need a much more heavy-duty freezer than a residential address would typically have. The fridges in these factories would also be much larger in order to house all of the lunches. Some homes with bigger families can have a large fridge, but not usually as large as the factory fridges.

Another difference between home and business appliances is that manufacturers will sometimes make the business appliances have a higher wattage than the appliances meant for homes. The reason for this is because business appliances are used a lot more often and in a larger capacity than appliances in the setting of a house.

So, there is not much difference between home and business appliances. There only needs to be a difference if the organization is large and has a lot of employees. Also, both of these types of machines are bought at the same stores. It is very hard to find a store that only sells business appliances.

By: Amy Nutt

Purchasing a big appliance such as a refrigerator, washer or dryer is a major decision. Comparison-shopping is a must, so that you don’t end up paying more than you have to. On the other hand, don’t sacrifice safety, convenience and reliability just to save some dollars.

Consider first what features you need as well as the size and capacity that your home can accommodate. A refrigerator with an ice-maker or reversible door, a washer or dryer with sensors for blocked lint filters and humidity changes – these are great to have, but do you really need those features? Remember that the price goes higher as you go up a model and more features are added.

It is always better to measure the space where you plan to put the appliance before going to the store. After all, the time to know that you need a 33-inch-wide refrigerator between the countertop and wall is before the store delivers a 36-inch model. If you are going for a built-in look for your laundry area, getting the dimensions of the cabinet that will house the washer and dryer will save you the effort and cost of replacing a wrong purchase.

Capacity is another major factor. Consider the use that the appliance will get. For instance, if you have a growing family, you will need a bigger appliance compared to a couple with no children.

A refrigerator that is too big and not kept filled wastes energy and costs more to operate, while a refrigerator that is too small wastes your time because of the constant rearranging that you have to do to make things fit. For washer dryers, it is important to coordinate the capacity of one with the other. You need a bigger dryer space (about twice the capacity of the matching washer) for clothes to tumble more freely and dry faster.

Is the appliance easy to use and maintain? Your dealer should have available manuals from the floor models that you can read to help you ask relevant questions, understand how the appliance is operated and let you know it needs any special care or handling. Also, make sure that authorized factory service is readily available in your area for the brand that you select.

All appliances come with a warranty, and it is important to read and understand this before making a commitment. The coverage can include the whole appliance or just certain parts, and some even include the cost of labor. The period covered by the warranty also varies by brand or model.

It also helps to ask your dealer about promotions or discounts. Buying a washer dryer combo of the same brand might be less expensive than if you bought them separately or if you bought different brands. Sometimes, appliances bought online come with mail-in rebates that gives you bigger savings than if you purchased them at a store.

By: Ty Hammell

In a country where the rise in population is directly proportional to the fall of available space, it is very practical to live in smaller units such as apartments. However, the hazard of living in such small places is that your appliances and furniture tend to be smaller, too. Your refrigerator is smaller, your bed is smaller, and even your toilet bowl is smaller. So, when the time comes that you need an oven for a special dinner, all you can do is scratch your head.

But that is not the case anymore. Because appliance manufacturers noticed the need for smaller yet fully functional appliances, they have produced toaster ovens. You might think, “I won’t be able to bake in that thing.” That is where you are wrong.A lot of moms know the need of owning an oven at home. Without one, you will not be able to make decent lasagna or bake cookies for fundraising events. With a toaster oven, cooking these things is no problem at all.

Toaster ovens come in two different types, the first one is the plain oven where you are just limited to toasting breads and grilling a sausage. The second one, however, performs functions of a normal oven and allows you to bake, broil, and grill, complete with timer and temperature controls.

Toaster oven cooking is actually very easy if you already know how to use a full sized oven. The controls are pretty much the same, allowing you to fiddle with the controls for customized settings. Most toaster ovens have controls of whether you want to turn on both the top and bottom wires or just one at a time. They also come with a convection function, making sure that the temperature is distributed equally inside the oven.

The convection control normally serves as the rotisserie control as well, allowing this type of cooking for chicken. Normally, a rod and two locks are included n the box when purchasing a toaster oven and, having tried one, I could say that the locks really do a good job in keeping the chicken secured.

Toaster ovens normally use electricity to operate, although it does not consume as much as a full sized electric oven does. The size, like mentioned, is perfect for smaller families.

There are a few drawbacks in this kind of cooking, however. Since the oven is smaller, the space between the hot rods and the food is greatly reduced. Because of that, food seems to cook quicker compared to a larger oven. It is also quite hard to fit a turkey inside, again because of the size. But that one can easily be solved by replacing it with a smaller bird such as a chicken. After all, Thanksgiving does not come around every day.

Toaster ovens are perfect for families living in smaller spaces or for anyone who cannot afford a decent full size oven yet. It performs most of the functions of the real one at a smaller size and a relatively smaller price, as well.

By: Mary Franklin

If your appliances in your home have been there for quite a while you may want to consider upgrading your appliances for several different reasons. Updating your appliances can be a hard choice with the variety that is available now. If you are in the market to upgrade your old appliances there are a few things you should know.

The appliances in your home include your stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, washer, dryer, hot water heater and your furnace. You may have all of these appliances or some. If the appliances you have are over ten years you may need to upgrade. The appliances made a long time ago are not energy efficient and may cost more to run. When you compare your yearly power bill from one year to the next you may see an increase as you use the appliances. The newer appliances can save on your power bills because they do not require much energy to run them.

Dishwashers are probably the least appliance used. No one uses the dishwasher in fear that they will use too much water and energy to run and therefore choose to wash dishes by hand. The good news is that with an energy efficient dishwasher, the amount of water and energy that it takes to run the dishwasher is minimal. In fact you may use more water washing your dishes by hand then what you would use in a dishwasher during a single cycle.

Refrigerators are becoming an appliance of convenience due to the fact that it is no longer necessary to open the door in order to get ice and cold water. Now it can be accessed from outside the refrigerator on the door. This not only provides you with a constant supply of ice and cold water for drinking but it also saves energy because you do not open the refrigerator door to access them. This can save you a lot of money on your power bill each year since this is the reason why the refrigerator is opened so often.

Washers and Dryers are now being made to be energy efficient as they save on the amount of water they use as well as the many different cycles and selections to make that will wash your clothes and dry them on the first try. If clothes do not get clean on the first cycle we usually put them back to wash again. This can cause you to use more energy, more water and heat. Dryers can not dry efficiently on the first cycle if the load is large or the wrong settings are used. This may cause you to use your dryer more than once in order to dry your load of clothes.

Modern appliances are not only easier to use with all their different settings but they are more efficient as well. Choosing to upgrade your appliances may be a big expense initially but after a while the savings will more than pay for the appliance. Most appliance stores can offer you all the latest in home appliances.

By: Bill Brennan

Does your home have a small kitchen that you want to redecorate? Below you will find some decorating tips for a small kitchen which will hopefully help you achieve the desired result.

When redecorating a small or compact kitchen it can be quite a challenge as not only do you want to maximize the space you have available, but you also want the kitchen to live up to its full potential. The real key to making this work is to simplify as much as possible and hopefully the list below will help.

1. Only use smooth lines and simple patterns as they will help to create the illusion of space in the kitchen.

2. If at all possible align the appliances flush with cabinets so that you have one continuous unbroken surface and reduce the number of visual elements in the room by using simple cabinet styles. On the top cabinets, think about replacing the plain doors with glass fronted ones or do not have any doors at all. This can help to reduce the feeling of being boxed in those solid wood cases.

3. When choosing a color scheme, go for something in a neutral or pastel tone and limit the number of colors and patterns that you use in the decorating. Where at all possible keep the color of the cabinets, walls and floors similar as this also helps create the illusion of space in such small areas. Use bolder colors only as accents in the room.

4. Also, if at all possible, make sure that you have shiny work surfaces and diagonal patterns on the floor as these also create an illusion of space.

5. Remove all clutter. Do not place anything on the surface of your refrigerator. Some kitchen companies can make panels to match cabinet doors for your refrigerator which will make it almost disappear. If you want to display items, then place them on top of cupboards rather than on the counter tops. Any small appliances, recipe boxes and spices should be placed inside cabinets.

6. To expand the volume of the room further using light and windows. Certainly a kitchen full of light is more appealing and easy to work in. Expand this further if at all possible by placing either opposite or close to the window in question a mirror which will help to reflect more light into the room.

As you can see just a few simple changes will soon help to make your small kitchen look bigger and brighter and thus more welcoming to the user.

By: Lee Dobbins

If you are remodeling your kitchen, then chances are you are planning to buy new kitchen appliances. These new appliances will accent the room and fill the needs of the family. You can look at outlet stores as well as appliance stores to find all the matching appliances in one area. With all the different colors, sizes, manufacturers and types of kitchen appliances needs, you have many selections to choose from when shopping. This means you will have to do your homework and make your selections well.

Major Appliances

The kitchen always needs a refrigerator and a range, and you want them to match each other. When looking for these major kitchen appliances, you have to decide between built-in and a freestanding model. Think about which refrigerator model suits your design better. The stove likewise could be a counter top stove with a built-in oven somewhere more convenient, or a freestanding traditional range with oven under a 4 or 6 burner cook top. Definitely go for a built-in stove if you want the convenience of two ovens.

The dishwasher and trash compactor are considered major kitchen appliances as well. You can have these match the refrigerator and stove for an overall unified color scheme. Both the compactor and the dishwasher fit under the counter top, however, they both come as freestanding models as well.

Kitchen Appliance Combination Packages

Shopping around for the best price from different manufacturers on individual appliances is a good idea, but when you buy a kitchen appliance combination package the value is usually much better. A combination package will include dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven and refrigerator. They will all match and be the same brand and style. This way the appliances will integrate very well into your new kitchen. This is the best deal when purchasing kitchen appliances, but be sure that the kitchen appliances that you are getting are quality, reliable products, and you aren’t getting stuck with what is left in the warehouse.

Compare Kitchen Appliance Options

It is really worth the time and effort to compare kitchen appliance options. One of the most obvious reasons that you should take this time is because you will be able to get the best quality and price.

The first thing to check out is the quality. After all, if the product is poorly made then it really does not matter how much you are saving, because you will end up paying more when you have to make repeated repairs or buy the appliance again.

Do a brief background check on the manufacturer. See how long they have been in business, and research online whether they regularly have complaints. You can ask around among friends and coworkers for input as well.

Reading kitchen appliance reviews is the best place to start before making large investments. There are different types and sources of kitchen appliance reviews that will offer a big picture. Many sites offer expert kitchen appliance reviews, which look at most products from a technical point of view. They can provide insight to the potential for repairs needed, and how easy it is to find a service center, and what it will take to install and use the product.

Other sites provide reviews and opinions posted by users of the product. Consumer based appliance reviews are sometimes not completely objective, as people will interject their disappointment in the product into the review. For example, in looking at a review for a particular item, if the unit received great reviews on operation, ease of use, performing as promised, and the company’s response to problems, then take with a grain of salt the reviewer who absolutely hates it. When looking at kitchen appliance reviews it pays to look at more than one website.

An important consideration in comparison shopping is the Energy Star rating. This gives you a rough idea how much the appliance will cost to run. Some kitchen appliances have many wonderful features that may use a lot more gas or electricity. Evaluate the cost of use with the price of the appliance. When looking at Energy Star ratings, be sure to compare apples to apples, that is, make sure the unit of measure you are comparing on two different units is the same.

Armed with your information on manufacturers and styles, the last step is to make a list of the different stores in your area that offer the particular kitchen appliance you are looking for. Compare the suggested retail prices given by the different stores, and take note of which is the lowest.

Kitchen Appliance Colors

In the 1960s the latest in kitchen appliance trends turned its back on classic white appliances, adding such colors as avocado and sunburst orange and yellow. These days the range of colors and textures for these appliances are endless. You have your choice of black, white, off-white, red, navy, stainless, and black glass. Not to mention expensive, custom color choices.

Stainless steel is now one of the most popular finishes for appliances. Many people appreciate the aesthetic appeal of a stainless steel kitchen appliances as well as their ease in keeping clean. Not only do they reject fingerprints, but they fit in better with any kitchen color scheme.

By: Steve Dolan

Home appliances are considered to be very important with a lot of people. Nowadays nobody has the time to do hand washing of bed sheets and jeans, and toasting a bread in an open fire is certainly not a good idea!

Appliances are very handy tools inside our homes, but what do we need the most? In stores today, there are lots of useful appliances that we need more but which one do we really need the most?

In this short article, we list the ten most needed home appliances and explains how these appliances helps each other in the lists.

Number One – the Stove

You really need a fireplace to cook your food. Without a stove, you might as well eat out everyday. For those of you who eat out frequently, imagine how much money you have spent eating out instead buying a stove using that money. A stove can basically bake or cook fish, beef and chicken, bake chicken and boil water. Most food you want to cook and complete the recipe needs a stove.

Number Two – the Refrigerator

If you still have not buy a fridge for yourself, you have to move somewhere cold and freezing especially during summer for the food to keep cold and to preseve it. But if you want to preserve food and you don’t want to buy your own fridge, a stupid idea is to cut giant ice blocks and put it in your box..

Number Three – the Washer

Washing machine is a very helpful appliance. Within thirty minutes, all of your dirty laundry could be cleaned. About a hundred years ago, doing laundry takes so much time even for just a small group of family.

Number Four – the Dryer

It’s like having a washing machine which helps you to do your laundry in about thirty minutes. The dryer dries clothes just like washer in about thirty minutes. and useful especially in the winter when there’s no sunlight!

Number Five – the Dishwasher

We all know that dishwashing is one of the most hated chores in home. Having one dishwasher simply saves much time and power. This appliance doesn’t just wash dishes, it also disinfects them.

Number Six – Toaster

People are used in having a breakfast with a toast bread along. Toasters are effective and efficient in doing the job.

Number Seven – Coffee Maker

Maybe you are not into coffee but you can’t face the fact that coffee is very addictive and someone in your home could be one. And coffee is often the preferred beverage for your guests.

Number Eight – Blender

Since everyone likes healthy food, a blender can help you make it. There is nothing like whipping a homemade soup in just a minute and grinding frozen fruit for just seconds.

Number Nine – Food Processor

These helpful appliances has a variety of sizes. Within minutes you could chop up your food for dinner with a food processor and not spending an hour for chopping. And if you would leave your family for a long period of time, you could already chop all the veggies needed and tell someone in the house the remaining instructions that could be easily followed.

Number Ten – Microwave:

A microwave can help you defrost or heat up something within an amount of time. And also, people loves popcorn, microwave is a helpful appliance to have.

By: Zach Smith

Everyone knows that home appliances are very important. After all, no one has time to be hand washing jeans and sheets these days, and having to toast bread over an open fire would certainly not be very convenient! Appliances are very important in our homes, but which ones are the most important? Out of all of the appliances available in stores today, which ones are the ones that would be labeled as “must haves”? This article will touch on the top ten appliances to have at home, and will also back up each one as to why it is in the top ten list.

Number One – Stove: Without a stove in your kitchen you would definitely need a fireplace, unless you planned on eating out at least once a day, if not several times per day. If you were to eat out that often, the money you would spend in a week or two would probably pay for any stove you would like to buy! A stove can boil water, bake a cake, cook chicken, beef or fish, and basically cook or bake anything you need. Most recipes in your cookbook need a stove to complete the recipe.

Number Two – Refrigerator: If you did not buy yourself a fridge you would need to live near a frozen lake or pond in the winter and build an underground cold storage facility for the summer months. Food needs to kept cold to stay fresh. That is a fact of life, and unless you want to cut out giant blocks of ice in the winter for your ice box, you will need a fridge.

Number Three – Washer: Washers are a great appliance to have. There is nothing like stuffing a load of dirty clothes into the modern washer and thirty minutes later having a load of clean clothes. One hundred years ago washing clothes took a whole day to do – and that was if you had a small family!

Number Four – Dryer: Just like its nice to have a washer clean your clothes in thirty minutes, its also great to have a dryer to dry them in the same amount of time. In the winter especially!

Number Five – Dishwasher: This appliance is a lifesaver for a large family, but it is still a blessing to have for two or three people. Nobody likes to wash dishes, and to have an appliance that does all of the work for you is always great! Also, dishwashers don’t just wash the dishes, they disinfect them as well.

Number Six – Toaster: Most people like toast, and it has become a staple in the morning. Toasters do the job effectively and fast enough for our fast-paced lives.

Number Seven – Coffee Maker: Even if you don’t like the black stuff, you will eventually have people in your home who do like it, and are probably very addicted to it! Coffee is a great ice breaker and something nice to offer to guests.

Number Eight – Blender: Everyone is eating healthier these days and a blender really helps you to do this. A blender can whip up a homemade soup in minutes, or a frozen fruit drink in seconds.

Number Nine – Food Processor: These handy appliances come in all kinds of sizes these days and they are very helpful in the kitchen. Instead of spending an hour chopping up foods for dinner you can do it in minutes with a food processor. Also, if Mom has to go away for a couple of days, instead of buying unhealthy frozen dinners for her family, she can pre-chop all of the veggies needed for meals and just leave some simple instructions that hopefully Dad can follow!

Number Ten – Microwave: When you want to defrost something fast, or heat some leftovers, a microwave is a very important appliance. Also, without a microwave, you could never have any microwave popcorn.

So there it is, a list of the top 10 home appliance must have’s.

By: Amy Nutt

We all know that we get the best rates for our house hold appliances at a store. But what do we do with the existing scratches and dents that we find on the appliances that we paid those nice dollars for. If the thought of scratches and dents have been worrying you for so long and if you have been wondering about ways to become your neighbors’ new envy, then it is time that you read the following step by step guide that will show you the best ways to deal with those minor problems that come with the appliances.

Tip 1

For your very first guide tip, you have to concentrate on the small dents that you could find on your home appliance. If there is a small dent on the door or the sides of a refrigerator or even on your washing machine, then get a hold of your common toilet plunge. To remove the dent from the appliance, you would have to place the plunge over the dent and press it slightly. A vacuum is created between the plunge and the metal wall and you have to slowly pull the plunge away from the wall and release it. This would ensure that the dent is removed with minimal force and that such force does not damage your appliance even further.

If the dent is bigger than expected or as big as the discount that you got, then you need to apply the same suction action, only in this case your toilet plunge would not do the work for you. You would have to try removing the dent by using an automotive plunge. These are bigger and would help remove bigger dents. Since you get these as automated machines as well, you would not have to worry about the right amount of pressure to remove the dent.

Tip 2

For the second tip you would now have to look at how to remove those visible scratches off your stainless steel appliances. The best way to deal with such scratches on your stainless steel appliances you would have to look for a not stainless steel scrub. Such scrubs are usually used for your ceramics and not stick pans. Use these mild abrasives and rub slowly and mildly on the stainless steel scratch. This gentle rub would soon remove the obvious scratch marks and make it more subtle since it polishes it simultaneously. If it is a color painted appliance then using such a scrub should not even cross your mind. It is best to have a refill done by your local painter. If you think that they charge way too much to remove the scratch then your best bet would be to look for nail enamel, magic markers, and crafts paint in the closest shade to cover it up.

Always make it a point to try the paint on the hidden side, before you paint the actual scratch. With these two important tips for your scratch and dent appliances guide, you are sure to be able to fix such niggling problems in no time.

By: Kermit Cousins

I want the public to know that the new machines out their are not lasting as long as machines that were built 10 to 20 years ago. It does not matter what brand it is: Kenmore, Whirlpool, GE, Maytag you get the idea.

In my opinion the older machines were built like tanks! They have less electronics in them and in my opinion they were built with better parts. Before you buy a new machine keep in mind that almost anything you buy today will have a electronic control board in it and the more gadgets the refrigerator, washer, dryer, dishwasher or oven has the more things that can go wrong with it. If your machine is in good condition and has been well maintained then you should think about repairing your appliance. The cost of the repair in most cases will be far less than a new machine. Also, most new machine’s will not last as long as your parents machine did!

For those of you that I could not convince and your almost out the door to purchase a new appliance I have a couple of Tips for you.

First, do a litter home work, research the appliance your going to buy. Do a search online about the appliance you want to buy to see if customers are having a problem with it, and do not just look at review pages find some blogs, get the model number of the appliance your thinking of buying and do a help search on the internet. (Example: help (your model #) washer) and see what comes up on the internet. I personally looked up a LG dishwasher that had 3000 complaints on it. Of course you can not rule out something just because it has a couple of complaints.

Second, when your at the check out ready to pay for your new machine, they are going to want you to purchase a extended warranty on the appliance. If you do not have a home warranty that covers your appliance’s and your spending a lot of money on the machine you should get the warranty. As I said, the new machines can have more than one control board and lighting and power serges can cause problems with these newer machines, and the makers of appliances are not putting serge protectors on them witch is something else you might what to buy for it also.

Third, on the positive side. I can say that I am happy with front load washers, they do save a lot of water, when a front load washer fills it only uses a few gallons of water compared to 10 gallons or more on a top load washer every time it fills. This could save you hundreds of gallons of water a year. The customers I have talked with say it washes very well. On the negative side, the cost of repair could be on the high side, so don’t forget about that extended warranty.

UPDATE : 10-17-09

If you are buying a new appliance please ask the company you are buying it from who will be the service company that will repair the product if it has a problem. We are finding in some areas that some manufactures do not have any authorized Tech’s in many areas.

Thank you for reading.

By: Donald Rowan
