If you are looking for a washing machine, you may want to consider washing machine types such as top-loaders. Top-loaders which cost around $350 and more are user-friendly since users do not need to bend over when using them. As an alternative, why not also consider purchasing front-loaders which cost around $600 and more?

The great thing about this type is that 65% of energy will be saved and around 30% of water will be conserved because the basins that come with it do not need to be filled with water. However, keep in mind that the newly-released top-loaders which cost around $900 oppose the front-loaders which are energy efficient. It is important to look for the following factors:

Tip 1 # A washing machine that does not heat all the water contained in the machine.

Often times, people buying washing machines often do not care about whether the washing machine they are buying heats only the water it needs. This statement was said by Standards of Excellence manager John O’ Meara. He stated further that nowadays, this feature has been very common in many washing machines. Most washing machines now has the feature of saving and conserving energy by heating not the entire water contained in the tank but only the water needed for the washing. Generally, the newly-released washing machines are much more efficient that the washing machines released in the past. This comment was made by Jill Notini from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers located in Washington D.C.

Tip 2 # A fast spin cycle.

If the spin cycle of a washing machine is fast, the faster it is to dry the clothes because more water is extracted from the spinner. According to http://www.applianceadvisor.com Alex Cheimets, it is very important that you look for a washing machine with a higher rpm or rotations per minute because it adds the energy that is being saved. A washing machine with 900 rpm is good and if you are looking for a machine that will help you save and conserve more energy, get a good pair of dryer and washing machine that comes with the moisture sensor. This shuts down the unit after detecting that the clothes are already dry.

Tip 3 # A machine that uses minimal amount of water.

According to Whirlpool spokesperson, Audrey Reed-Granger, the washing machines released in the past used 40 gallons of water for each cycle. If you would look at that for a year, you will arrive at over 14,000 gallon. It would be better to look for a washing machine that requires less than 14 gallons of water cycle consumption.

Tip 4 # Pedestals

Pedestals that cost around $100 up to $200 may now be installed in some washers and dryers. These pedestals are placed under the washing machine or dryer may be raised by one foot to make loading and unloading easier. There are also washers and dryers that already come with drawers used to stash bleach, stain-removal sticks and detergent.

Tip 5 # Extra rinse cycle

This is an additional option that you may opt to get. An extra rinse cycle allows the washing machine to dispense extra water while washing of clothes is ongoing. It a good way to remove stains and excessive detergent that may lead allergic people to sufferer especially babies however; the negative thing is that you may have to pay higher water bill.

A Piece of Advice:

Audrey Reed-Granger of Whirlpool noted that using spin cycle of a washing machine with a 1000 rpm shock-absorber free floor will make the floor shake but there is nothing to worry about this when used in a ground floor and basement because these machines are often reinforced.

By: Zach Smith

People are in need of a commercial ice machine for a wide array of reasons. While some families will place a machine in a garage or basement, it is most commonly found in the hospitality industry such as a restaurant, hotel, resort or country club. Whether you are a business owner or someone looking for such a machine, there are some things you need to know when selecting the proper unit for your needs.

Many do not realize there are different types of commercial ice machines to choose from. The options available include a modular ice machine and ice bin, self contained ice machine, and an under the counter ice machine.

A lot of people are familiar with a modular ice machine and ice bin. It is important to note these are two separate units as one is used to make the ice and the other simply stores the ice. Some confuse it as one unit as the two typically are stacked on top of each other.

The next option to consider with a commercial ice machine is a self contained unit. Unlike the modular ice machine and ice bin, this is a singe unit that has the ice maker and ice bin built together. The reason this is often less preferred by most is because it has less capacity compared to that of a modular unit.

The final option to look into is an under the counter ice machine. As the name signifies, the overall unit is compact enough to fit under the counter. These machines are ideal for a small bar or home as it has a rather low capacity and is perfect for a small area.

Now that you understand what your options are as far as quantity and space requirements go, the next thing to look at is the shape of ice cubes you want. While this may seem like a rather minute facet to consider, there are different shapes that are ideal for certain situations. The shapes you will be able to choose from include diced cubes, contour cubes, nuggets and flakes.

A commercial ice machine that produces diced ice is considered to be “regular” ice, which is the shape most are used to. This is what you will find in carbonated beverages, mixed drinks, ice displays, ice dispensers, and banquet services.

Contour cube is also ideal for carbonated beverages, mixed drinks, ice displays and ice dispensing. The benefit of these ice cubes is that it will reduce splashes because the shape encourages the liquid to flow over easily.

Lastly, nugget ice is ideal for blended cocktails, bar fountain drinks, salad bars and therapeutic needs. Because the ice melts rather slowly, it will cool a drink much faster without forming any foam.

When shopping for a commercial ice machine there are several things you want to take into consideration. Everything from the unit as a whole to the ice shape should be looked at to make sure you get exactly what you desire.

By: Vivian Smith

It is a known fact that the air inside your home is just as toxic as the air outside your home, if not more so. It is the truth; outside of the pollution that you create inside your home through cooking, smoking and other things there is outside pollution that seeps into your home through the cracks and crevices air normally escapes through. Sure you can make your home more airtight and make this problem a bit better, but the best solution is to get an air purifier for your home. If you can’t quite make that investment, room air purifiers are a bit easier to afford and can help to purify the air in your home one room at a time.

First let’s take a look at odors. If you have a pet who likes to sleep in bed with you at night, you might benefit from getting one of those small air purifiers that you saw online or at the store and putting it in your room. Just like people, dogs tend to let go some sickening odors at night and an air purifier can remedy that problem in a minute. Also the smells that may come from a litter box or other pet related incidents can also be easily cleaned out of the air with the help of an air purifier. If you have a problem with strange smells in your home an air purifier for your room just might be something to keep in mind.

But what about dust and smoke? If you have ceiling fans you probably know just how fast dust can collect in the home. Just check the top and sides of the blades. Small air purifiers can help to get the dust out of the air and away from your senses, preventing dust related allergic reactions. Smoke is also a problem in the homes of thousands upon thousands of American people, and these purifiers can help clear the smoke from the air as well. Maybe there is a place in your home that just gives you the worst sneezing fits ever; having a purifier designated just for that room may make all the difference.

When it comes to room air purifiers you don’t have to have one for every room in the home; having one in a couple of your rooms will do, especially if they are rooms that really need the help. There is a way to cure your home from smoke, smells, and pet odors-you just have to know where to look.

By: Ned D'Agostino

If you are one of a growing group of people looking to save money around the home, you should investigate your electricity usage. Reducing the amount of electricity you use has two advantages: it will help you to save money and it is a good thing for the environment. A great way to reduce the amount you spend on your electricity bill is to choose appliances that are energy efficient.

If you are looking to purchase any new appliances, look for the following things:

The energy guide: It is a requirement in the United States, according to the Federal Trade Commission, that appliance manufacturers place labels on their products which indicate how much energy a particular appliance uses. This label, known as an energy guide, is most often colored black and yellow and is able to tell you a lot about the appliance you are considering. For example, it will indicate the cost of running the appliance in an average household for a year. It will also indicate the efficiency rating of the appliance in comparison to similar appliances.

The energy Star: This is a special logo that companies are able to use for their products to indicate how energy efficient they are. They are only allowed to display this Star according to law if the appliance has been tested and shown to meet or exceed particular energy standards as set by the government. An appliance with an energy Star can be as little as 20% more efficient than comparable models or as high as 100% more efficient. As a result, it pays off to purchase an appliance that has an energy Star: the higher the efficiency rating, the better it is for you and the environment.

Bigger is not always better. Some people are of the opinion that they need to buy the biggest appliance available. These people do not understand that the different sized appliances are to cater for different sized rooms and the needs of the people purchasing them. So, if you have a small, galley style kitchen, it would be a ridiculous waste of money and electricity to purchase the biggest air conditioner you can find.

You should also examine the size and needs of your family. If you are a small family of two or three, you don’t need a huge refrigerator, or a giant washing machine, or a large capacity dishwasher.

It might seem confusing when you have to look at all of these terms and numbers when purchasing a new appliance. You shouldn’t let this stop you from making a wise choice; these numbers and symbols and the information they contain are a powerful way for you to reduce your electricity costs over the long term. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, such as parts and repair warranty, and make comparisons before you make your choice.

By: Michael Benifez

The most obvious factor people consider when looking for a small refrigerator is the size. The primary reason a person looks for a small refrigerator is because they have refrigerating needs but do not want a full sized refrigerator. However, there are usually more specific details that many are not aware of until they take the unit home and realize there is something missing or a feature that would have made the refrigerator more useful.

The first thing that really affects the effectiveness of the storage capacity of a refrigerator is are the shelves. Since space is limited improper shelf design can create a lot of wasted space or can assist in making the most of empty space. Adjustability of the shelves is an important factor to increasing the efficiency of the space used.

When talking shelves, a removable shelf not only make storage easier and more effective but also assists in the cleaning process. Glass is also easier to clean than plastic since it is see through so any spot is easily visible. Removable or sliding out shelves make it easier to reach things and clean.

As far as organization goes, beyond shelves, there are all kinds of door shelves and space organizing compartments that are designed to store specific common items more effectively. The problem with this is that they don’t always work as intended. A door shelf for condiments might not fit the bottles you have. Any unusable shelf is wasted space. Check for soda can dispensers and ice trays and consider whether this is useful to you or will it get in the way of things.

Another important factor of all appliances is energy consumption. Small refrigerators typically come with the standard thermostat controller which is just a knob with a series of numbers. Digital thermostats are better because they allow a target temperature to be set and that is a significant energy saving because of the better accuracy than the numbers on a knob.

By: Will Edison

Not many of us will remember the brightly colored home appliances that our grandmothers had. However, brightly colored appliances were the order of the day some 30 years ago. This could be shocking for people who do not want to have colored appliances in their homes.

Although home appliances today have shorter life-span than the ones around two or three decades ago, we still consider them to be long term investments. Therefore, people think carefully before making their purchase. Most of the people pay close attention to the color of the appliance. However, sometimes they are in a quandary whether to purchase colored ones or stick to neutral colors like white or black.

Whether to buy colored home appliance or stick to neutral colors ultimately depends on your buying strategy and the décor of your home.

If you are buying an appliance to replace an older one, then you should opt for a color that matches with the other appliances in the room. So, if the room has colored appliances, you should opt for the same color. And, if the room has neutral colored appliances, then go for neutral. This should be your maxim for purchasing a replacement appliance.

However, if money is not a criterion and you like to follow trends, then you should opt for colored appliances. This can make the kitchen look vibrant and cheerful. However, you also need to realize that these appliances can give your kitchen an outdated look in no time. Also, if the appliance has to be replaced some time in the future and you do not get the same color, you will be saddled with a mismatched appliance in your kitchen which will stick out like a sore thumb.

If you are replacing all the appliances in the kitchen, then check out the color of the flooring, the countertop and the tiles. You should make your decision based on this. Also, take into consideration whether you would be happy to have that particular color for the next 5 to 10 years. In case your answer is no, then it is best to opt for neutral finishes.

By: Kum Martin

Over the centuries many appliances and gadgets were created to make it easier for the housewife to prepare delicious meals. There is none that has topped the power of the microwave and the ability to save on time, which has made it number one in the newest of appliances. You can use the microwave to cook, bake, boil, and broil, to just about accomplish anything in a matter of seconds.

The food industry has gone to great pains to make products that can be prepared in a matter of seconds and minutes. This saves the housewife hours during the day that she can dedicate to her family and career. When it comes to baking you can make cakes, brownies, cookies etc. in a matter of 45 seconds. You can bake chicken, beef, pork in a matter of minutes instead of the usually hours. One of the nicest things is the fact that you can buy your meat repacked in the grocery store already for preparation in the microwave. Many times people like the idea of being able to make snack foods like pizza, popcorn etc. while entertaining for the evening.

There are so many things that you can accomplish with a microwave that it is predicted within the next few years the stove will be replaced. You can actually buy your stove with a microwave attached instead of an oven or along with the oven. Many new microwaves are now coming with a broiling unit on the side so that you make chicken or fish in your broiler. The new modern microwave is the best invention today for the kitchen.

By: Tom Tessin

Small toaster ovens are extremely convenient to have in the kitchen. Not only do they combine the convenience of a toaster and an oven, they do it in a very small space that fits neatly on the kitchen counter. They are, of course, available in a number of different sizes, but most people feel that a small toaster oven is the perfect size. This is because it does not take up much space, costs less than larger models, and is generally just the right size for quick baking tasks.

Although some people think that they are only appropriate for small families, such as single people or couples, this is not necessarily the case. Often even larger families feel that using one is ultimately more convenient and useful than the larger models. This is because they can quickly let one-person heat up a meal, or fix an after school or late-night snack. Most people find that they end up using the large stove oven anyway when they need much more than a meal or snack for one or two people. As a result, a small toaster oven often gets more use than a larger one, even in larger families.

A small toaster oven can be a real advantage to a busy family. They are extremely affordable, easy to clean, and simple to maintain. They are a durable appliance that does not require a lot of electricity or money to operate, and are much more economical than using a large oven for small baking tasks. They are small enough to fit into even small kitchens, don’t take up much counter space, and are an efficient way to cook a quick dinner for one or two people. They can be especially handy for cooking special meals for one person in the family, especially if one person has certain dietary restrictions or needs that are not shared by the rest of the family.

Small toaster ovens can be a great choice for families with children. Many children would like to learn to cook their own simple meals and snacks, but they are intimidated by the large oven. A small toaster oven is just the right size for children to practice their cooking skills. They might even discover that they prefer their healthier homemade baked snacks as opposed to less healthy and more expensive processed junk snack foods.

Before purchasing your small toaster oven, do some research to make sure you get the best deal. There are sites online that make it easy to do product and price comparisons. Take the time to shop at some local stores, so that you can compare the sizes and features in person, regardless of where you plan to purchase your small toaster oven. This can help you find just the right model for your needs. Once you locate the model you want, you can purchase it either locally or online.

By: Shane Dolby
